Following their historic victories in the 2004 and 2007 World Series, the Boston Red Sox owners and players visited the White House, and along with representatives of Mass General Hospital made a stop at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and met hospitalized Veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Red Sox organization was deeply moved by the visit and sought to make a deeper, sustained commitment to serve our returning Veterans and their Families.

Thus, Home Base was created in 2009. A joint venture between the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital, Home Base operates the first and largest private sector clinic in America, devoted to providing lifesaving clinical care and support for the treatment of invisible wounds.
